Once a year the past and present residents of Kumara proudly come together to celebrate our town and its unique heritage.

Next November will see the sixth annual Kumara Gala Day, a day to celebrate our history and get excited about the future.  The Kumara Gala day is a culmination of our many volunteer groups coming together to put on a day to remember, while the Kumara Residents Trust raises funds for local projects through raffles, stalls, children's activities and lovely cups of tea and home baking in our Memorial Hall. Along with the usual market stalls, visitors are treated to some uniquely Kumara events - such as the "Golden Mile" vintage bike race or the street parade where those in period costume join in, along with penny farthings and Can Can girls. Add gold panning, Clydesdale rides, the famous Kokatahi Band, the Black Powder Gang and helicopter rides- who could resist?! So come, step back in time and celebrate with us!
