Momentum in Kumara for KRT

Below outlines the results of this years Kumara Residents Trust submission to the Westland District Council’s Annual Plan process.

Thank you everyone who contributed with this process, we are getting new rubbish bins and the grant to maintain the toilet at the sportsground has increased.  While the Greenstone Road footpath didn’t make the cut for this year, it is now top of the list for footpath upgrades in Kumara, so it’s just a matter of timing & $$.

Kumara Residents Trust welcomes the new Kumara Memorial Hall committee.  It was great that the previous public meeting facilitated by KRT resulted in a successful Kumara Memorial Hall AGM.  The Hall is a great facility for our community and it is great that there are new volunteers keen to be actively involved.  As an umbrella group for the community, KRT will continue to support this committee in their endeavours as required.  For example, KRT recently submitted (on behalf of the Hall Committee) a Community Organisation Grant (COGS) application which included funding for the Kumara Memorial Hall to cover general running expenses (insurance, power etc).  If the application is successful, KRT will work closely with the Hall Committee to administer this funding.

Chinese Miners Memorial Reserve Update

Presentation May 2016

Fiona Pollard (KRT) and Biddy Manera (WRENIS) with the support of Mike Keenan (CDO) and Simon Tam (Dept of Corrections) met with Consulate-General Jin Zhijian, Madam Jin, Guangdong Association representatives, sponsors, donors and Department of Corrections last Saturday night in Christchurch. A presentation on the progress of the Kumara Chinese Miners Memorial Reserve was given. (see attached). Both presentations from Kumara and Ross were well received and the Chinese community are actively exploring ways to support both projects.

It was good to reflect on the progress since December 2014. We were grateful for the opportunity to strengthen the relationships and gather more support for both projects.

Community Picnic @ Dillman's!

Hi Everyone,

As you may have read in the Goldtrails, there was a meeting last month to look at upgrading the Kapitea Reservoir picnic/car park/boat ramp area.  A link to the meeting notes is below.

KRT will be gathering the relevant info on use, purpose etc and will develop an online survey as well as suggestion box within the community.

At the KRT General Meeting, we decided to have a community picnic up at the dam, with a possible rubbish clean up if you're keen,  and definitely a relax with fellow Kumara folk. So please tell your neighbours and come along - all welcome.

Looking forward to an end of summer catch up!
